What if I need to leave the program early?

This program is a commitment of 16 weeks. Students who wish to end the program early will be charged a $100 one time fee.

We understand that occasionally personal emergencies may prevent an artist from unexpectedly continuing with the program. If you are an artist enrolled in a mentorship program and need to end your enrollment, please email julie@sentientacademy.com

This should, however, be a worst case scenario as accepting one of the twelve seats in this program prevents another artist from participating.

I'm interested in the Advanced Color Scripting program. How do I know if my work is good enough yet?

If you really want to be apart of the advanced color scripting program but aren't sure about the quality of your work, we would encourage you to apply regardless. It may be that Tiffanie feels you are a perfect fit for her Digital Painting Foundations program. The Digital Painting Foundations mentorship program is also an excellent place for artists to strengthen their skills and grow significantly.

I am confused about how much this program costs!

The full cost of this 16 week program is 1600 dollars. However, we know it isn't fun to pay 1600 dollars for anything all in one lump. You will be charged 400 dollars at the time of your enrollment. Then, on the same day for three consecutive months, you will be charged an additional 400 dollars.

How long will I have access to mentorship recordings?

Students will have access to mentorship recordings for the duration of the program plus one month after the program ends. At the conclusion of that time period students will no longer have access to the mentorship recordings as Sentient will be preparing for a new term and a new student group. This practice is consistent with optimal learning. Sentient Mentors do not advise students to become overly focused on the same lectures and critiques for a long period of time as this ultimately hinders growth and confidence.

If a student quits the program early they will lose access to the recordings at the end of their pay period. Please email the sentient team if you are uncertain as to when that will take place for you.

If I don't make it into the Color Scripting Mentorship, will I benefit from the Digital Painting Foundations Mentorship?

It is true that some of those who apply for the Advanced Color Scripting Mentorship aren't accepted into the program. Usually those artists need assistance with one or more of their foundations before they are ready for Tiffanie Mang's advanced program. If you are one of those, we would highly recommend that you enroll and take advantage of the opportunity to work on your digital painting technique and apply to the advanced program again at a later time.

How long is each class?

The class length is determined primarily by the number of students who have submitted work to be critiqued. Another factor in the class length is the complexity of the instruction. Students can expect an average class length of two hours per week.

I loved that there is an advanced class. I actually have to work hard to keep up and I love that! Normally I always do double homework to get the last out of the can as it were, now it was actually the homework itself that did the trick. Also, the lectures were so helpful with figuring out all my next steps! Loved it! We also had an amazing class!

When I'm outside now, I look at the clouds and buildings and marvel at the hue shifts, temperature changes, and value contrasts that I never noticed before! It's like another dimension to existence has been unlocked, and I am excited to apply my newfound knowledge to my work going forward.

Practically speaking, Tiffanie's mentorship curriculum is extremely robust. Tiffanie teaches that painting well and understanding light/color comes from an amalgamation of different kinds of study - plein airs, matrix studies, fine art master studies, film studies, personal experimentation, etc. She leads us into exploring all of these (at a pace tailored to each individual) and explains in her demos how she synthesizes insights from such varied experiences. Her consummate knowledge of her craft is apparent in her ability to field all kinds of questions, helping both beginners and more advanced students.

Additionally, she constantly role-models curiosity and the desire to improve. This passion and humility makes her a uniquely inspiring teacher...her confidence gradually translates into your own. I could not more highly recommend her mentorship to anyone looking to become a better painter and artist!

I've been studying with Tiffanie for a long time and her lessons have taught me so much. Before the mentorship, I only knew how to do photo studies, but I didn't have an in-depth understanding of color and lighting, nor did I know how to apply them into my own work.

Every lesson and homework in the mentorship has benefited me tremendously, and I'm now much more comfortable creating the images I want. I'm very grateful to have such a responsible and wonderful teacher like Tiffanie!

Tiffanie has been instrumental in my artistic progress. As a self-taught painter, I didn't quite understand how light worked nor how important shapes were to a painting.

I recently landed a concept art job with Walt Disney Imagineering, and I believe without Tiffanie this could not have happened at all.

My art has immensely progressed to the point other people started consistently commenting on my progress.

I am excited to continue my studies and self-development with Tiffanie and grow further as an artist!

I've been looking for a mentorship that would push me to get to that next level in my art, and I found it in this mentorship. Not only that, now I feel that I have a clearer objective in what I want to become as an artist. That's one of the things I'm loving from this mentorship, not only the in-depth aspect of the lectures but the inside and inner working of a new way of thinking that Tiffanie wants us to acquire and how to appreciate the art of the master painters.

Every class I take I feel like I opened a new door of possibilities with all the new knowledge that is brought. That you see me each week trying and experimenting how to utilize this knowledge in my daily paintings and how to improve them. The Notan studies and Grids were game changer for me, I find myself organizing and designing in a more proficient way. I'm super excited to see what's next. Thank you Tiffanie, you're a great mentor.

Throughout my artistic journey, I've had countless different art teachers and mentors, both in & out of art school. But never have I had someone break down & teach painting the way Tiffany did. With in-depth lectures, comprehensive demos, and great feedback, she opens doors to new ways of thinking about value, light, and color.

I've found a tremendous amount of growth in my work, even over a short amount of time. I couldn't recommend Tiffanie's mentorship more to anyone who's looking to improve their painting skills, either traditionally or digitally! Thanks for being such an amazing mentor!
