How is Sentient Mentorship different?

At Sentient, we pride ourselves on fostering a familial atmosphere where mentees receive nurturing guidance from their mentors and dedicated support from our team. Led by top-tier industry professionals, our mentorship program delivers high-quality art instruction, career preparation insights through lectures and candid conversations. Mentees collaborate closely with their mentors to develop portfolios and articulate their artistic goals, ensuring personalized support every step of the way. Behind the scenes, the Sentient team ensures smooth operations and continuously improves our mentorship program based on artist feedback, making each experience better than the last.

Why do I need a mentor?

Practicing diligently on your own is beneficial for refining your skills through repetition. However, effective practice thrives on consistent high-quality instruction. Artists who practice in isolation, devoid of regular feedback from experienced mentors, risk ingraining incorrect techniques. As Frank Lombardo aptly said, 'Practice doesn't make perfect; it makes permanent.' Therefore, we advise seeking guidance from accomplished professionals. At Sentient, we believe you can find the ideal mentor to elevate your artistic journey.

Why is my portfolio stronger with a mentor's help?

Sentient mentorships prioritize your career success, whether in the entertainment industry or securing placement in a gallery. Your mentor offers honest feedback on your work and keeps you informed about current industry trends. They prepare you for your next career leap by identifying necessary skills to refine and crafting a competitive portfolio. Discussions on portfolios are frequent and open, with mentors actively engaging with questions within the Sentient community.

How does an online mentorship actually work?

Artists seeking online mentorship should begin by submitting an application. Our mentorships cater to various skill levels, including advanced, beginner, and intermediate. Some programs have limited availability, while others do not. If applications are not currently open, we recommend joining the waitlist to receive prompt email notifications when they reopen.

Upon acceptance and enrollment, you will gain immediate access to your course, where you can start with bonus demos, initial instructional materials, or a first assignment, depending on your mentor's approach. Classes will be scheduled regularly and include lectures, demonstrations, exercises, homework assignments, and personalized critiques provided through recorded sessions. You'll also engage regularly with your mentor and peers via a private discussion board exclusive to your class at Sentient. Live classes will allow for interactive Q&A sessions, and students can also ask questions afterward. Each week, students will submit homework assignments for critique. Additionally, mentors may supplement the learning experience with extra materials such as handouts, demos, or interviews.

Practically speaking, Tiffanie's mentorship curriculum is extremely robust. Tiffanie teaches that painting well and understanding light/color comes from an amalgamation of different kinds of study - plein airs, matrix studies, fine art master studies, film studies, personal experimentation, etc. She leads us into exploring all of these (at a pace tailored to each individual) and explains in her demos how she synthesizes insights from such varied experiences.

Her consummate knowledge of her craft is apparent in her ability to field all kinds of questions, helping both beginners and more advanced students.
Additionally, she constantly role-models curiosity and the desire to improve. This passion and humility makes her a uniquely inspiring teacher...her confidence gradually translates into your own.
