Pet Portrait Series: Furball

Today we focus on one of the most photogenic animals around: the cat! Our Lion-King reminiscent model looks positively regal and we're going to capture that energy in our shapes and colors. But how can you really show just how furry this kitty is? Focus on the subtle shifts in fur color without having to pull out the #0 brushes to paint every single hair. Kai will show you how to balance soft and lost edges to imply texture, techniques you'll be able to use on any of your future furry subjects!

Kai Lun Qu is know for his alla prima paintings filled with expression and painterly strokes that evoke deep emotions. His unique blend of traditional style with a contemporary twist is a result of two extremes: a formal training in China’s most prestigious art academy, China Central Academy of Fine Arts and intense studies with renown contemporary painters like Daniel Keys, Tim Rees and Michelle Dunaway in the United States. 
In 2018, He was featured in Southwest Art Magazine, 21 under 31: Young Artists to Watch.
